There were cheers all round today [29 August] as the first section of the surf reef was laid out onto Boscombe sea bed this morning. Local and national journalists and film crews recorded the historic moment the webbing base and geo-bags slowly rolled off a barge and entered the water. The first reef section was transported on a barge from Poole to the sea-based construction site at Boscombe.

Donachie Fourth In Line To Quik Throne
The best 32 European surfers under 16 battled for the throne at the Quiksilver King of The Groms event in Capbreton at the beginning of August. Toby Donachie from Cornwall came fourth overall, with Vicente Romero and Dimitri Ouvré the top two who will go to the international final. The sun was scorching, the waves solid, and crowds lined Le Prévent Beach to watch the action.

Nicholas Charles Williams (Nick to his friends) is a regular in the line up at Fistral, Newquay where he lives and works. In between surf sessions Nick has developed a career as a painter and this month has been shortlisted for a major art award, the Threadneedle Figurative Art Prize. The award offers two significant prizes with the chance to win a total of £35,000.

NEWQUAY, England (Sunday, August 10, 2008) – Wiggoly Dantas (Ubatuba, BRA), 18, won the Rip Curl Boardmasters in association with Relentless today, claiming his maiden ASP World Qualifying Series title in testing four to six foot (1.2 to 2 meter) waves at Fistral Beach after defeating Pablo Paulino (BRA) in a 100% Brazilian final.

Marc Lacomare (Hossegor, FRA), 18, won the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-1 Vans Pro Junior today in consistent two to three foot waves at San Sebastian in front of a massive crowd. Lacomare, who defeated Reubyn Ash (from Bude), Adrien Toyon (REU) and Pierre-Valentin Laborde (FRA) in a 35-minute battle, secured his second victory of the season after the ASP Grade-3 Rip Curl Pro Junior in Portugal last April.

Nearly 50 surfers arrived at south Fistral on Saturday with their boards bearing stickers with Joe Way's website on each one.
Joe is the inspirational little boy who touched people's lives around the country and beyond. His website, www.joeway.co.uk has been set up to tell his story, raise awareness of his conditions, and to help raise money for Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal to build a children's hospice in Cornwall.

Team Great Britain is currently on its way back from Peru where they put on a strong performance at this years World Masters Surfing Championships. The team came 14th out of 17 teams in an event that saw some monstrous two to three metres plus surf.

One of Europe’s top pro surfers has been appointed Patron to the British Surfing Museum.
Quiksilver and Gravis rider Gabe Davies, who holds multiple British and national titles, has agreed to join the not for profit organisation and will help out with publicity, advice and special events.
