Bus Stops

Stornoway, Outer Hebrides

The west coasts of the remote islands of Lewis and North and South Uist pick up any Atlantic swell going and have dozens of beachbreaks. Both Lewis and the Uists have roads running along their western coasts.

This is a surf trip for the hardy surfer who loves to explore. Those who make the trip to these remote surf destinations always come back with tales of mesmerising scenery and the boundless wave potential of the area. Camping is your best option here, and make sure you take lots of warm gear! If you aren't too worried about staying close to the beach, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts are good too - check out the listings on the righthand side of the page. Surf schools, surf shops, equipment hire and accommodation aren't as thick on the ground as in the more populated surfing areas, but that's part of the charm. Fewer surfers mean that the breaks you find (and there are more than we've listed here!) will most likely be empty or populated by curious locals, including the seals… Tons of wildlife and great walking opportunities.
