Spot Info
Located at the mouth of the River Tyne and only six miles from Newcastle city centre, Tynemouth boasts half a mile of stunning coastline – the hub of surfing in Newcastle. There are two main surfing spots.
The first is Longsands beach. Longsands is a consistent east-facing mellow beachbreak (with rocks in places), best from mid- to threequarters-tide. Use the rip by the old outdoor pool on bigger days. As it’s the most popular beach in the area, it does get crowded.
King Edward’s Bay (‘Eddies’) is a small sheltered east-facing beach just north of the harbour, and is best from low- to mid-tide. There is a beachbreak in the middle and two pointbreaks on either side.
Break type: Sand Offshore wind direction: South westerly Swell direction: Northerly Wave direction: Lefts and rights Ability: All Water quality: Good – EU blue flag award Lifeguard service: During summer months National Trust: No
Hazards
• Crowds.
• Rips.
• Pollution from the river Tyne.
• Intermediates only.
Attended the 5 day course. Great tuition by the Smart brothers, friendly and informative and well explained with good time in the water. Recommended for all beginners. Also fab Fish and Chips.
Been to these guys back in April, the place backs right onto the dunes on the beach. Its a tucked in piece of surfing heaven. Slam bang next to the surf school and the beer is cold and the food is great!
They even have their little bistro bar turn into a late night venue on the weekends, I rate this place highly and so will you. Tonnes of parking and a cool, laid back vibe.
Awesome
It's so nice to go to a restaurant of which you have never been before. we haven't had such tasty food out in a long time, and the vegetarian options looked fantastic- the vegetable thai curry, delicious! Great Place.
